Donna Mae Rasmussen, 90, Hillsboro

Donna Mae Rasmussen, 90, of Hillsboro died Jan. 24, 2021, in Edwardsville, Ill. Ms. Rasmussen was a teacher for the Hillsboro R-3 School District and the Herculaneum R-5 School District. She was a graduate of Drury University and earned a master’s degree in education at Maryville University in St. Louis. She was a member of Mount Olive United Methodist Church in De Soto. Born Jan. 23, 1931, in Whittier, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Luella (Binns) Hampton. She was preceded in death by her husband: John William “Bill” Rasmussen.

She is survived by three children: Karen (Robert) Copeland of Plano, Texas, Donna Kay (Marsha Poehling) Rasmussen of Edwardsville, Ill., and Kathy (Michael) Calcara of Shawnee, Kan.; a sibling: Jerry Hampton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Andrew (Jacob Westbrook) Copeland, Kate (Brad) Pierce, Heather (Martin) Morgan, Will (Becca) Rasmussen, Alan (Stephanie) Rasmussen, Emily Calcara and Kat Calcara; and a great-grandchild: Nora Mae Pierce.

She was preceded in death by a son: Jon Rasmussen; and three siblings: Maurine Lassen, Eugene Hampton and Kay Kinkead.

A memorial gathering will be from 1 p.m. until the memorial services at 2 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 7) at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main, in De Soto. A private burial was held at Mount Olive Cemetery in De Soto not long after she died. Memorials may be made to the De Soto Lions Club, the De Soto Public Library, 712 S. Main St., in Desoto, or Mount Olive United Methodist Church, 13675 Mount Olive Road, in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
