Kamp, Don

Donald B. Kamp, 88, of  Bloomington, Ill., formerly of De Soto, died Oct. 3, 2002. Mr. Kamp was a U.S. Army veteran. He attended John Burroughs School in St. Louis County and the University of Colorado in Boulder before graduating from Washington University in St. Louis. He worked for Union Electric (later AmerenMissouri) as a manager before retiring in 1995. He was born Nov. 13, 1933, in St. Louis, the son of the late Charlotte L. (Briner) and Walter A. Kamp.

He is survived by his wife: Virginia “Ginny” (Croak) Kamp, whom he married on Aug. 19, 1961;  six children: James Kamp of Fairview, N.C., Mary (Len) Costley of Hayward, Wis., Margi (Greg) Christopher of Bloomington, Ill., Cathy (Jesse) Luesing of Downs, Ill., Nancy (Brian) Warden of Cunning, Ga., and Julie (Jason) Kamp-Triefenbach, of Portland, Ore.; and 10 grandchildren: Taylor (Sinan) Akkoseoglu, Jake and Lauren Christopher, Josie (Tim) Anderson, Jed Costley, Hunter, Steven and Olivia Luesing and Jack and Tyler Warden.

He was preceded in death by a son: Joseph Kamp; a daughter-in-law: Carla Weitzel-Kamp; a sister: Barbara Kamp; and a granddaughter: Molly Warden.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at St. Patrick Church of Merna, Ill., officiated by Father Dustin Schultz. Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 504 S. Third St., in De Soto, officiated by Father Alexander Anderson. Burial is in the Calvary Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to Birthright of Hillsboro, 407 Third St.,  Suite 4302, Hillsboro, 63050. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
