Don Schrum, 73, of De Soto died June 20, 2022, at his home. Mr. Schrum worked out of the Laborer’s Union Hall and was a member of VFW Post 1831 in De Soto. He enjoyed attending shooting matches. Born Nov. 6, 1948, in Hematite, he was the son of the late Bessie Pearl (Murdick) and Dolphin Taylor Schrum Sr.
He is survived by his wife: Penny (Hayes) Schrum of De Soto; two children: Donna (Todd) Tucker of De Soto and Randall (Michelle) Schrum of St. Louis; three sisters: Viola (the late Carl Sr.) Huff of Farmington, Eileen (Tim) Robbins of Gillespie, Ill., and Gwen (the late Tom) Hutton of De Soto; two brothers: Ron (the late Mary Lou) Schrum Sr. and Robert (Juanita) Schrum, both of De Soto; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Dawn Schrum Vinyard; a sister: Carol Greenwell; and two brothers: Dolphin “Joe” (Carol survives) Schrum Jr. and Paul Schrum.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at the funeral home. Burial is in the Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
