David Ray Holdinghausen, 67, of Villa Ridge died May 1, 2019, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Mr. Holdinghausen taught for three years at Lonedell R-14 and five years at Pacific Junior High and coached the baseball and girls basketball teams at Pacific High School. He was employed with New York Life Insurance since 1982. A man of strong faith, he was a 42-year member of St. Mary’s Church in Villa Ridge, where he taught religion class for 25 years. He was a member and officer of the Kiwanis Club in Pacific and was involved with PYA in Pacific for many years. He enjoyed outdoor pursuits, from yardwork to grilling burgers or steaks, and thoroughly enjoyed watching football and Cardinals baseball, always wearing his red Cardinals cap and flashing his ear-to-ear smile. Born March 26, 1952, in Crystal City, he was the son of  the late William “Bill” and Dorothy (Stackley) Holdinghausen.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years: Betty Rose (Burlage) Holdinghausen, whom he married on June 8, 1974, at Assumption Catholic Church in Herculaneum; their four children: Karmen (Jeff) Holdinghausen Kuznitz, Thadd (Adrienne) Holdinghausen, Megan (Bob) Hamilton and  Josh (Stephanie) Holdinghausen; 11 grandchildren: Hayleigh, Breanna, Tyler, Zachary, Gwendolyn, Piper, Charlotte, Lucy, Robert, Jack and Alec; a brother: John (Cindy)  Holdinghausen; and countless others on whom he made an impact during his lifetime.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Terry Lee Holdinghausen. 

Visitation is scheduled from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, with a rosary service at 7 p.m., at the Oltmann Funeral Home in Union.  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at St. Mary’s Church in Villa Ridge. Private burial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to STL Youth Sports Outreach. Arrangements are under the direction of Oltmann Funeral Home.
