Charles Jerome “Jerry” Marlen, M.D., 84, of Great Falls, Mont. died Aug. 31, 2022, in Great Falls. Dr. Marlen was a retired longtime radiologist at Montana Deaconess Hospital (now Benefis Health System) in Great Falls. He graduated from Roosevelt High School where he served as president of the student council and won a science fair. He received the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended the University of Tulsa on a basketball scholarship, then earned a master’s degree in medicine from the University of Missouri in Columbia. He interned at the University of Texas in Galveston and was a doctor in the U.S. Navy at the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation in North Dakota. He then continued his work in South Carolina before settling in Montana. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman and was a supporter of the Great Falls Symphony Orchestra. He was a Presbyterian. Born Dec. 4, 1937, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Norma May (Rose) and Thomas Winfield Marlen.
He was preceded in death by his previous wife: Pam Marlen.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years: Diane Doyle-Marlen; her son, Kelly (Jenna) Stevens; four children: James (Lori), Charles, Ann and Don (Yolanda); five grandchildren: Bryce Stevens, Justin, Kaylie and Melissa Marlen and Tom Decker; seven siblings: Rosalie Schele, Thomas (Tomi Ann) Marlen, Mary Sapp, Richard Marlen, Robert Marlen, Michael (Kathy) Carr and Patrick Carr; and numerous nieces and nephews.
No services were held. Arrangements were under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home, Great Falls.
