Paul James “PJ” Carron, 79, died Oct. 12, 2017, in Tampa, Fla., and his wife, Cecilia Y. Carron, 82, died Oct. 28, 2017, at the Meadowlands Assisted Living in O’Fallon. Mrs. Carron was an LPN and retired from Alexian Brothers Hospital in St. Louis. She was born Sept. 4, 1935, in Arabela, N.M., the daughter of the late Crucita (Ybarra) and Maximiliano Sanchez.
Mr. Carron retired from Consolidated Freightways after 33 years in the trucking industry and was a member of Teamsters Local 600 in St. Louis. He was born Oct. 20, 1937, the son of the late Edna (Vineyard) and Walter Carron, and was raised by the late Harvey and Mabel Toulouse.
Mr. Carron served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to1958 as a firefighter stationed at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, N.M., where he met his wife of 60 years. They were married Sept. 16, 1957, and after leaving the military, moved to Festus to raise their family. The Carrons were longtime members of Assumption Catholic Church in Herculaneum.
They are survived by five children: Donald Carron of Pennsylvania, Carol (Don) Walsh of O’Fallon, Donna Fonseca of Mesa, Ariz., Cathy Carron Meier of Tampa, Fla., and Valorie Edmister of Ruidoso, N.M.; eight grandchildren: Nadia, Ryan, Jacob, Coty, Caty Rose, Sierra, Luke and Hunter; and three great-grandchildren: Cera, Nora and Sophia; Mrs. Carron’s siblings: Orlidia (the late Gene) Radtke of Tucson, Ariz., Max (Maria) Sanchez of Perryville, Onfre (Georgia) Sanchez of El Paso, Texas, Marcella Miranda of Roswell, N.M., and Cathy (Ray) Sanchez of Glencoe, N.M.; and her brother-in-law: Fred Nunez of Las Cruces, N.M.
They were preceded in death by Mr. Carron’s sisters: Shirley (the late Wallace) Huddleston and Betty (the late David) Fults; and Mrs. Carron’s sister: Arcelia Nunez.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Sacred Heart Church, 555 Bailey Road, in Crystal City, Father Clark Maes officiating. Burial, including full military honors for Mr. Carron, will be in the St. Jude Catholic Cemetery in San Patricio, N.M. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Humane Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
