Swanson, Carol

Carol Ann Swanson, 84, of De Soto died Nov. 27, 2020, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mrs. Swanson earned a nursing degree at the age of 50 and worked in local nursing homes and as a private, in-home caregiver. She was born April 1, 1936, in Sheboygan, Wis., the daughter of the late William and Katherine (Holmes) Plocar. She was preceded in death by her husband: Delbert E. Swanson.

She is survived by a son: Scott (Gerry) Reimer of House Springs; three stepchildren: Michael (Christine) Swanson of High Ridge, Dody Swanson of St. Louis and Nanci (Rick) Kallaus of Wildwood; a daughter-in-law: Chris Freund of Hillsboro; six siblings: Jacque Rupp of Wisconsin, Charles Polcar of Wisconsin, Judy Fisher of New Mexico, Shirley Woolman of Arizona, Billie Bradley of Arizona and Darlene Wilke of Arizona; five grandchildren: Andrea (Dayle), Crystal, Courtney, Sunny and Ricky; and two great-grandchildren: Dayle and Hawkin.

She was preceded in death by a son: Daniel Freund; four siblings: Jerry Polcar, Robert Polcar, Pat Starkey and Katherine McClellon; and a granddaughter: Windy Gale.

A prayer service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in House Springs, officiated by Father Dennis Schmidt. Burial is in the  National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
