Betty M. Harris, 89, of St. Peters died Feb. 3, 2022, in St. Louis. Mrs. Harris was retired. She was a member of First Baptist Church of O’Fallon and enjoyed volunteering at the hospital, attending church, traveling, sewing, shopping and spending time with family. Born Oct. 21, 1932, in Festus, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Violet (Swan) Axley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 11 years: Joseph Harris.
She is survived by three children: Terry (Debbie) Roberts of Festus, Tim (Lisa) Lewis of Hillsboro, Melissa Leverich of O’Fallon; a brother: Ronald (Alice) Axley of Festus; nine grandchildren: Brock (Tracey) Roberts of St. Clair, Amanda (Kevin) Gotsch of St. Clair, Katy Rose Lewis of Festus, James (Megan) Lewis of Bloomsdale, Chris Roberts of French Village, Bryant (Holly) Roberts of Festus, Molly (Dustin) Black of Pevely, Alexis (Michael) Baker of Moscow Mills and Olivia Leverich of O’Fallon; 18 great-grandchildren: Braydon Roberts of St. Clair, Landen Roberts of St. Clair, Kamdin Roberts of St. Clair, Rachel Suttmueller of St. Clair, Chase Suttmueller of St. Clair, Vivian Murr of Festus, Drake Murr of Festus, Hadley Lewis of Bloomsdale, Scarlett Lewis of Bloomsdale, Launa Roberts of French Village, Brett Roberts of French Village, Lilly Roberts of Festus, Khloe Black of Pevely, Axley Black of Pevely, Drayden Black of Pevely, Emory Baker of Moscow Mills, Adelyn Baker of Moscow Mills and Bennett Baker of Moscow Mills.
She was preceded in death by a son: Arthur “Arty” (Carla survives) Roberts; and four siblings: Robert Axley, James Axley, William Axley, and Tom Axley.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at Elks Lodge 1721 in Crystal City, officiated by First Baptist Church of O’Fallon. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, SE First St., Suite, 800, Miami, FL 33031.
