A quarter – just 25 cents – isn’t what it used to be.
But Saturday (Jan. 27), it’s time to break the piggy bank for those coins to help someone in need.
Cedar Springs Elementary School in House Springs will hold a quarter auction to raise money to help one of its own – fifth-grade teacher Dawn Hassbaum, who is battling cancer.
Hassbaum, 43, of Barnhart was diagnosed with breast cancer several years ago. She was nearing five years of being cancer-free when, unfortunately, she again was diagnosed with cancer, this time in the lining of her lungs and lymph nodes.
The school raised $1,200 on behalf of the teacher in December with its annual auction, and administrators, teachers and students are looking to add to that total this weekend, to help make up the pay Hassbaum has lost while undergoing treatment.
The quarter action will begin at 7 p.m. at the school, 6922 Rivermont Trails. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
Admission is $12.
The event is open to the public and will feature vendors, raffle baskets and other activities. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks – and plenty of quarters or two to bid on items.
