Arnold Police are investigating thefts from a car and an SUV parked at Arnold City Park on Bradley Beach Road. The culprits smashed windows on the vehicles to get inside, police reported.
The thefts happened Sept. 10. The first incident was reported about 5 p.m. that day, and the second one at about 7:30 p.m., the report said.
In the first incident at the park, which is off Jeffco Boulevard near the Meramec River, a 43-year-old Arnold woman found the front passenger-side window smashed on her 2016 Hyundai Sonata, and her purse was stolen from the car, a report said.
The purse was later found in a trash can in the park, and the victim’s wallet and car keys were still inside. However, a checkbook and debit card were missing, and few hours after the theft, her bank contacted her to tell her someone had cashed $2,000 in checks, according to the report.
Capt. Rich Shular said he did not know where the checks were cashed.
In the second incident, a 37-year-old De Soto woman reported that the rear driver-side window was broken on her 2016 Honda Pilot, and her Michael Kors purse was stolen from the SUV. The purse was valued at $350, the report said.
As of Sept. 18, the Michael Kors purse had not been recovered, and there were no suspects, Shular said.
The cost to repair each of the windows was estimated at $400 each, Arnold Police reported.
Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call Arnold Police at 636-296-3204.
