Teens who are eligible to vote definitely should. It is their right as a U.S. citizen to do so.

More importantly, when people vote, they help elect people who likely have the same beliefs and will make decisions in line with their views. By voting, people also have the chance to have a say on issues that could have an impact on their lives.

Before people vote, though, it is their responsibility to get educated about candidates and the issues. Now, more than ever, teens have access to a variety of informational outlets to learn about the candidates and issues. They can read newspapers and watch TV, of course. They also can look at political commercials on YouTube, visit candidate websites and do other online research. They also can go to their county’s website and look at the ballot language before going in to vote.

If people don’t take the time to do the research and vote, though, they’re giving up their right to have a say on important political decisions that could affect them for years to come. So, get out there and vote and have a say.
