For the second time in the last three years, the Fox C-6 School District needed to schedule a special Board of Education meeting to receive the results of an independent audit.
The board meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27. Board members and district administrators will meet via Zoom, and the meeting will be broadcasted on Fox’s YouTube channel for the community to view.
“Multiple factors played a role in the delivery of the audit, both internal as well as external,” Chief Financial Officer Amy Vandevender said. “The audit fieldwork began in early October. However, Daniel Jones audits several different districts in the surrounding area, all with Dec. 31 deadlines. Our board meeting was pre-scheduled earlier in the year, which resulted in a scheduling conflict to deliver the financials at the Dec. 12 board meeting.
“This was more of an inconvenience rather than a concern.”
A financial audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements. An audit also includes evaluating the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of significant accounting estimates made by management, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of the financial statements.
Daniel Jones and Associates, a certified public accounting firm, handled the audit.
Fox also had to schedule a special board meeting in December 2021 to receive an audit. Last year, the audit was presented during the scheduled December meeting.
In 2022, the audit report received an unqualified (clean) opinion, which is the highest form of opinion that can be expressed by an auditor. That opinion said Fox demonstrated it met the highest standards for financial management and reporting, according to board documents.
