Crews will close a stretch of southbound I-55 from Hwy. M in Barnhart to Hwy. Z in Pevely overnight Friday, Feb. 27, for bridge construction, Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) officials announced in a written statement.

According to the statement, all lanes of southbound I-55 in the stretch will be closed starting at 11 p.m. Friday, Feb 27, with the lanes reopening at 5 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28. The closure is required for crews to pour concrete for a new bridge over BNSF railroad tracks and the closure will occur weather permitting.

A signed detour will direct traffic around the closure by exiting I-55 at Hwy. M and turning left on Hwy. M. Drivers will proceed on Hwy. M and right on Hwy. 61-67 and then take another right on Hwy. Z, proceeding on the left side to go left onto the southbound I-55 on-ramp to return to the interstate, according to the statement.

The bridge work is part of an estimated $246 million I-55 Corridor Improvements project that runs from just north of Pevely south to just south of Festus.
