Pevely Police are investigating the death of a woman believed to have been struck and killed by a train on Monday evening, June 10.
Chief Mark Glenn said today, June 11, that the victim had been identified but he wasn’t releasing her name to the public yet.
He described her as being in her 30s and said he did not know where she had been living.
Glenn said the Pevely Police Department was notified that a Burlington Northern train stopped abruptly on railroad tracks behind the Super 8 hotel, 1711 Hwy. Z.
“Last night at about 8 p.m. we received a call from the (Dunklin Fire Protection District) that a train had come to an immediate stop. Our officers responded and located a woman who had apparently been struck by a train. She was deceased. Her body was discovered on the tracks just west of the Super 8 hotel.
“We contacted the state Highway Patrol. They are investigating the accident part, and we are handling the death.”
Glenn said Joachim-Plattin Ambulance personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
He said it is not yet known if the woman’s death was accidental or if she took her own life.
“That’s the main focus of the investigation,” Glenn said.
He said members of the railroad crew have been interviewed about the incident.
