A woman has been charged for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend with a piece of a broken plate in a Festus domestic dispute that sent the 39-year-old man to the hospital, authorities reported.

Amy Ellen Scott, 44, has been charged with second-degree domestic assault, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, according to court records.

Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said Tuesday (June 19) that his department learned about the incident at about 2:15 a.m. June 15 when the victim sought medical treatment for stab wounds at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City.

The incident had occurred earlier at the couple’s residence in the 200 block of South Third Street, he said.

“She broke a piece of a dinner plate and lacerated his arm pretty bad,” Lewis said. “They got into some kind of argument. He had defensive wounds, lacerations from his elbow to his hand.”

The victim told investigators that “Ms. Scott became angry when she discovered something on his Google account and began yelling at him and breaking items throughout their house," according to the probable-cause statement.

The victim reported that Scott picked up a piece of broken glass dinner plate and charged at him. When he pushed her away, he was cut on the left palm just below his index finger. Then, the victim said, she charged again and said, “I should kill you.” The victim reportedly held up his arms and was cut on his right outer forearm, from his elbow to his wrist, the report said.

After the alleged attack, the victim said he left the house and went to the hospital, where he received 16 stitches and was released.

Scott was arrested at the couple’s home at about 3:30 a.m. and taken to the Festus Police Station.

Court records show Scott’s bond was set at $4,000.
