woman in handcuffs

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested a 19-year-old woman with no known address for allegedly stealing more than $1,800 in items from an Imperial resident who let the suspect take a shower and do laundry at her home in the 3800 block of Treebrook Drive.

The theft happened about 11 p.m. April 26, after the victim let the suspect into her home. The suspect knew the victim through mutual friends, Capt. Gary Higginbotham said.

Stolen items included a laptop computer, a Bluetooth speaker, an iPod, a Bose docking station, two Playstation 4 controllers, four Playstation 4 games, a Nintendo Wii system with four controllers, a wireless mouse, Victoria’s Secret leggings and a Mickey Mouse chest. Altogether, the items were valued at $1,854, the report said.

Later, deputies contacted the woman by phone, and she allegedly admitted to stealing the items and said she would return the items because she didn’t want to get in trouble. The woman eventually turned them over to deputies, Higginbotham said.

He said the woman was booked and released pending application for warrants. The Sheriff’s Office will seek felony stealing charges against her through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
