Eureka Police arrested a 42-year-old Washington man for alleged drug possession after stopping a car he was driving on Hwy. 109. An officer stopped the car because the man and a 37-year-old St. Clair woman were allegedly seen fighting while traveling on West Main Street in Eureka, police reported.
At about 2:50 p.m. June 29, officers saw the 1998 Chrysler Sebring on northbound Hwy. 109 near the I-44 overpass. The officers stopped the car near the intersection, the report said.
The man was arrested following the stop for driving with a revoked license. When an officer asked the woman to get out of the car, the officer saw a cylinder with a white powdery substance in the car, according to the report.
The woman said she was upset with the man for not answering her text messages, and she hit him. She also said the man also hit her, but the two had made up before the police stopped the Sebring, the report said.
The woman said she did not know what was in the cylinder, according to the report.
When an officer searched the car, he allegedly found a pill bottle stored in the driver’s side door handle. A bag with a white crystal-like substance was in the bottle, and there also were two pills in the door handle that were suspected of being fentanyl, the report said.
The man said the crystal-like substance was methamphetamine, but he did not know about the pills, according to the report.
The woman was released at the scene, and the man was arrested and taken to the Police Station. He was booked and released pending the application for a warrant.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a revoked license, Lt. Michael Tapp said.
