Two dogs and cat died after being removed from a burning house in the 900 block of Loretta Drive in Arnold. Two people, a dog and a cat got out of the home unharmed before emergency crews arrived, the Rock Community Fire Protection District reported.
Rock Fire was called at about 3 a.m. Aug. 1 to the home. Firefighters arrived at 3:11 a.m. and saw flames coming out of the house, the report said.
Firefighters retrieved the other two dogs from the home and attempted to resuscitate them, according to the report.
The fire was under control at about 4 a.m., and the scene was cleared at about 7:20 a.m. The cause of the fire was still under investigation, Rock Fire reported on Aug. 11.
Public Information Officer Alyson Barton said it appeared the fire started in the rear of the home. Steven McIntyre said the fire started in the kitchen. He also said as of today, Aug. 14, Rock Fire had not told him the cause of the fire.
The home was uninhabitable, but the residents declined assistance from the Red Cross because they had other living arrangements available to them, the report said.
The Mehlville Fire Protection District helped with the call. Rock Township Ambulance also responded to the scene.
