Eureka Police arrested a 37-year-old man and 43-year-old woman, both of Union, for allegedly stealing 104 items worth a total of $1,866.76 from Walmart, 131 Eureka Towne Center Drive, police reported.
At about 2:50 p.m. July 11, an officer was patrolling the store’s parking lot when customers flagged him down to tell him that a man and a woman had left without paying for a cart-full of items, the report said.
The officer located the man and woman in the lot putting the items into a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic. The items were not in bags, and the man was unable to show the officer a receipt for the items, according to the report.
A Walmart employee was called to the car, and the employee scanned the items. It was determined that the man and woman had not paid for the items, and the man was allegedly seen in surveillance video leaving the store without paying, the report said.
The woman told the officer that she only helped the man select items in the store, and she left before he exited. She said she assumed he had paid for the items, according to the report.
The man and woman were arrested and taken to the Police Station, where they were booked and released pending the application for charges, the report said.
Eureka Police will seek charges against the two through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for stealing, Lt. Brett Grittini said.
