Crystal City Police are investigating thefts from three unlocked vehicles in the north end of town, Chief Chad Helms reported.

“We have been contacted by three victims reporting that someone gained entry into their vehicles during the overnight hours between March 25 and 26,” Helms said.

One of the thefts occurred in the 200 block of Lexington Court, and a second one was in the 300 block of Williamsburg Drive, both in the Williamsburg Subdivision. The third theft was in the 100 block of Stahl Drive, Helms said.

Handguns were stolen from two of the vehicles. Other stolen items included money, a computer, music equipment and a large number of tickets to sporting events, he said.

“All three of these vehicles were left unlocked, which allowed easy access by the suspect, (or suspects), Helms reported. “I always try to encourage citizens to secure their vehicles at all times. Although this does not always prevent all criminal activity, it sure does help to deter it.”

The Crystal City Police Department is actively investigating the thefts, he said.

“Obviously with firearms being involved, it creates a public safety issue which we take very seriously,” Helms said.

Anyone with any information about the thefts is asked to call Crystal City Police at 636-937-4601.
