The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 51-year-old Texas man for allegedly stealing telecommunication wire. A deputy allegedly found the wire in a trailer that was connected to an SUV the man was sleeping in at the Kimmswick Port, 6090 Mississippi St., authorities reported.
A deputy saw the man on June 14 slumped behind the wheel of a Dodge Durango at the port. When the deputy checked to see if the man was OK, the man said he was sleeping, the report said.
The deputy then allegedly saw telecommunication wire partially covered by a tarp in the trailer. It was determined the approximate 200 feet of wire belonged to AT&T, according to the report.
The Sheriff’s Office did not report an approximate value of the wire or where the wire may have been stolen from.
The man was taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, where he was booked and released pending the application for a warrant, the report said,
The Sheriff’s Office will seek a charge against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of stolen property, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
