A 21-year-old man has been charged in connection with the shooting death Saturday (Feb. 25) of a 19-year-old man at a home in the 5800 block of Red Bud Springs Drive in House Springs, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Bryan Scholz.
The report said John Sutterfield has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
The Sheriff’s Office received a call about a shooting at 2:42 p.m., the report said. Deputies found Scholz at the scene and he was pronounced dead.
An investigation led deputies to a possible suspect, whom the report said drove away from the scene. Deputies found the vehicle outside the suspect’s residence a short time later, but they were unable to establish contact with anyone in the house.
Law enforcement obtained a search warrant to search the home, and the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team was called to the scene, the report said.
After futile attempts to determine whether anyone was in the house, officers issued a warning that a police canine would be used, and the four occupants of the house responded “almost immediately,” the report said.
Sutterfield then was arrested, the report said. He was being held Sunday (Feb. 26) at the Jefferson County Jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond, the report said.
