A 37-year-old St. Louis woman was arrested for allegedly stealing items from the CVS Pharmacy, 2120 Lone Star Drive, in Arnold. After the alleged shoplifting incident, an officer tried to stop the woman, but she reportedly tried to drive away with children in her vehicle, according to Arnold Police.
An officer was called to the store at about 8 p.m. Jan. 25, after the woman allegedly stole $314 worth of merchandise. When the officer arrived, he saw the woman getting into a 2010 Chevrolet HHR, and parked his cruiser behind the SUV and turned on his lights. The woman allegedly attempted to back around the police cruiser, but she stopped when the officer got out of his vehicle, the report said.
When the officer approached the woman, she allegedly refused to provide her identification and again attempted to drive away from the officer. But, he reached into the SUV, put it in park and shut off the engine, according to the report.
Then the woman reportedly refused to get out of the SUV, and the officer had to physically remove her from HHR. She then attempted to get away from the officer, but he was able to physically restrain her and take her into custody, Arnold Police reported.
The officer allegedly found merchandise stolen from the CVS in the SUV. A 1-year-old child and a 7-year-old child were in the HHR. The 1-year-old was in a car seat, but the 7-year-old was not wearing a seat belt, the report said.
Another woman also was in the SUV, and the children and HHR were left in her care. The 37-year-old woman was taken to the Police Station, where she was booked and released pending application for warrants, Arnold Police reported.
Detective Lt. Jason Valentine said the woman was issued summonses to appear in Arnold Municipal Court for shoplifting, resisting arrest, driving with a revoked license and endangering the welfare of children.
