Eureka Police arrested a 62-year-old St. Charles woman after she allegedly opened the doors of three pickups in an apparent attempt to steal one of them at Midwest Motors, 1400 S. Outer Road. The woman allegedly told officers she looking to “get some wheels” after her SUV ran out of gas on I-44, police reported.
At about 10:30 p.m. May 8, officers saw a pickup with its hazard lights on parked on the auto dealership’s lot. The business closes at 6 p.m., the report said.
The officers found the woman on the lot, and they saw the doors were open on a 2024 Ford F-250, 2010 Ford F-150 and a 2022 Dodge Ram 5500. Nothing was removed from the pickups, and the dealership’s building was locked and no one had entered it, according to the report.
The woman was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where she was booked and issued summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged tampering and trespassing, Capt. Michael Werges said.
He said after the woman was booked, an officer drove her to her 2023 Nissan Kicks that ran out of gas near the Lewis Road exit of I-44. The officer bought some gas so the woman could drive home.
