A St. Louis man was sentenced in state court on Dec. 16 to 40 years in prison for the 2015 shooting and robbery of a House Springs Army veteran who was leaving a Cardinals game in downtown St. Louis.
The victim – Chris Sanna, 45 – was shot in the back and is paralyzed.
St. Louis District 22 Circuit Judge Jimmie Edwards sentenced Kilwa C. Jones, 32, St. Louis, to 40 years in prison to be served concurrent, or at the same time, with a 35-year sentence in federal prison that Jones already is serving.
Jones pleaded guilty Dec. 16 to multiple crimes in connection with the Sept. 25, 2015, shooting, including: one count of the class A felony of first-degree assault; one count of the class B felony of first-degree assault; four counts of the unclassified felony of armed criminal action; two counts of the class A felony of robbery; and one count of the class C felony of tampering with a victim or witness.
Jones shot Sanna while he and his girlfriend were walking to their parked car after leaving a baseball game, the probable-cause statement said. As the two were walking in the 200 block of Walnut Street, Jones approached them, displayed a handgun and stole a Michael Kors purse from Sanna’s girlfriend, the report said.
Then, as Sanna reached in his pocket to get his property, Jones fired two shots at him and one of the shots struck Sanna in the back, according to the report.
Jones went through Sanna’s pockets and stole items from him. About an hour later, Jones used one of the debit cards he had stolen at two locations, which was captured on surveillance footage, the report said.
