The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating recent thefts at two Imperial churches.

On Nov. 3, the Family of Christ Lutheran Church, 5810 Hwy. 61-67, reported that a 6 1/3-ton York split-system air-conditioning unit valued at $2,000 was stolen, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

In addition, a trailer that was parked at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6020 Old Antonia Road, was stolen sometime between 10 p.m. Oct. 20 and 10 a.m. Nov. 3.

At Family of Christ Lutheran, someone who mows the church grounds noticed the air-conditioning unit was missing and notified the pastor, so a specific time for the theft could not be determined, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The black, 12-foot, 2011 Craftsman trailer stolen from the St. Joseph church grounds belongs to someone who has a lawn service business and had permission to park it at the church, said Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Sheriff’s Office.

The trailer, valued at about $950, had a hitch lock on it that was cut.

It was stolen while the owner was out of town, so he was unable to narrow the time it was stolen, the report said.

As of today (Nov. 12), neither the air conditioner nor the trailer had been recovered, and there were no suspects or arrests, Arnhart said.

He asks anyone with information about the thefts to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
