The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a 27-year-old Hillsboro man for questioning in connection with a recent forgery, Cpl. Matthew Moore said.

At 2 p.m. March 2, the Sheriff’s Office got a report about the forgery, which occurred earlier that day when someone allegedly went to a Festus bank and tried to cash a forged check from an estate, the report said.

After the Sheriff’s Office got the report, deputies went to a home on Thompson Road in De Soto, and the executor of the estate told them that the bank reported taking the suspect’s ID. In addition, the bank reported that it did not cash the check, according to the report.

The Hillsboro man was identified as a person of interest in the case, but as of today (March 21), the Sheriff’s Office hasn’t been able to contact him, Moore said.
