The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of $5,000 in copper wire and other items from a Barnhart cellular tower. The incident was reported on Sept. 25 after an Ericsson Electronics employee, contracted by Sprint, went to the site in the 6000 block of Metropolitan Boulevard to check on a service outage in the area, a report said.
The employee responded to the site at approximately 9:45 a.m. and discovered that someone had used a snipping device to cut through a chain-link fence. Items reported stolen or damaged included a fence, three copper wires cut from the meter inside the fence, a utility box and miscellaneous meters, according to the report.
As of Oct. 10, there were no arrests, Cpl. Matthew Moore said. Anyone with information is urged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
