bp gas station suspect

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help to identify the man in this picture taken from surveillance footage at a BP gas station in the Festus area. The man in the photo allegedly robbed a clerk at gunpoint this morning.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery at the BP gas station, 2591 Hwy. 61, south of Festus. The alleged robbery happened about 2:50 a.m. this morning (April 2), Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.

The suspect reportedly entered the gas station’s convenience store armed with a silver semi-automatic handgun, went to the customer window, pointed a gun at the clerk – a 42-year-old De Soto man – and demanded money from the register, the report said.

The clerk, who was the only one in the store at the time, complied, and after giving the suspect a bag with an undisclosed amount of money, the alleged robber ordered the employee to lay on the ground with his face down. The suspect then left the store, according to the report.

In the surveillance footage, it looked like the suspect was wearing jeans, black shoes and a black hooded sweatshirt with the word “BEAST” on the front of the shirt. The hood was up, and the suspect’s face was concealed by what appeared to be a bandana, the report said.

As of this afternoon, the man had not been identified, and the money had not been recovered, Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the suspect to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
