Eureka Police arrested a Texas man who allegedly stole a car in Pennsylvania and threatened to murder the people who were seeking charges against him for the theft, court documents show.
Shannon Hopkins, 31, of Pampa, Texas, has been charged for first-degree tampering, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison. As of Oct. 20, he was being held without bond at the St. Louis County Jail, court records show.
Eureka Police on Oct. 13 were called to the MotoMart gas station, 5695 Fox Creek Road, after a Flock license-plate reading camera alerted authorities that a 2014 Nissan Sentra that was reported stolen in Pennsylvania was in the area, according to the case’s probable-cause statement.
Officers found Hopkins at the gas station, and surveillance video allegedly showed Hopkins driving the car to MotoMart. He told officers after he had an argument with a woman in Pennsylvania, he went to the woman’s grandparents’ home and stole the car, the report said.
Hopkins said he was driving to Texas where his mother lived. He said when he is released from jail, he will return to Pennsylvania to murder the woman’s grandparents for seeking charges against him, according to the report.
Eureka Police contacted the Greensburg (Penn.) Police, who confirmed the alleged victims were seeking charges for burglary and stealing a motor vehicle against Hopkins, the report said.
