A Fenton-area man was taken into custody in connection with a motorcycle fire in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton on June 15, Saline Valley Fire Marshal Ryan Lesh said.

Firefighters received a call at about 8:25 p.m. about a fire in the 100 block of Deity Drive.

“It was a motorcycle that was set on fire and caused damage to the home and a separate vehicle that was parked nearby,” Lesh said. “When crews arrived, they found a motorcycle fully involved that was parked near to a residential structure and (a Jeep Cherokee). The motorcycle and nearby vehicle were extinguished and the alarm was brought under control by 8:36 p.m.”

He described the motorcycle as “a complete loss” and said the Jeep Cherokee had moderate damage. He said the house had some exterior damage.

Lesh said the owner of the motorcycle, who lived at the residence, was inside the house when firefighters arrived. He said the man came out and said, “arrest me.”

He said firefighters contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement took the man into custody. He said the man was taken to an area hospital for a mental evaluation.

No injuries were reported, he said.

Lesh said he ruled that the fire was purposely set.

“The Missouri State Fire Marshal Office was called out to investigate it further and go for any possible criminal charges,” he said.
