The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has identified a 53-year-old House Springs man as a possible suspect in the theft of a safe that contained $23,480 in cash and other items. The safe was stolen from a home in the 7200 block of Tower Road north of Hillsboro, authorities reported.
The victim called the Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 5 after he received notification on his phone from a surveillance camera about movement at his home. The man said he saw the notification at about 6 a.m., but he did not say what time the surveillance system detected the motion at his house, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy went to the house and discovered French doors on the back of the home had been forced open, and several drawers and cabinets were open throughout the house, the report said.
The deputy spoke with the victim on the phone while going through each room, and they determined a safe was missing from the house. The safe had $22,000 in cash, numerous coins, a 9mm Smith and Wesson gun, a 9mm Ruger gun, an Xbox video game system and six marijuana plants. The victim said he has a medical marijuana license that allows him to grow the plants, according to the report.
As of Aug. 15, none of the stolen cash or items had been recovered, and the suspect had not been arrested, spokesman Grant Bissell said. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
