Festus Police patch

A domestic dispute ended with a woman shooting a boyfriend with a handgun Sept. 24 in Festus, according to the Festus Police Department.

Festus Police Chief Doug Wendel said officers responded early Sept. 24 to a call about the shooting in the 800 block of Huber Street. The victim, 42, lives at the residence and his girlfriend, 40, lives in rural Festus, he said.

“Basically, it was a domestic situation,” Wendel said. “We got a call shortly after midnight. A boyfriend-girlfriend got into a physical altercation. He threatened her and she shot him. She shot him once.

“He was shot on the left side. He was shot in the arm, and it traveled through to the abdomen area.”

He said the man was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur.

“He was in stable condition last time we checked,” Wendel said today, Sept. 29.

The woman was taken into custody for questioning, but not arrested, he said.

“It will be up to the (Jefferson County) prosecuting attorney whether to press charges,” Wendel said.
