Rock Community Fire Protection District firefighters recently rescued a 29-year-old Arnold woman from the Meramec River near the Flamm City boat ramp in Arnold. The woman had fallen off a boat into the water, Arnold Police Detective Cpl. Josh Wineinger said.
Rock Fire spokeswoman Alyson Rotter said firefighters were called to the boat ramp at 6:04 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, and at approximately 6:10 a.m. the first truck arrived at the ramp, which is part of the 36-acre Flamm City Park at 1100 Telegraph Road, bordering the Teszars Woods Conservation Area.
Firefighters said the woman was exhausted and crying for help while swimming near the middle of the river. The woman was fully clothed and was not wearing a floatation device, according to the report.
Wineinger said authorities don’t know what caused the woman to fall out of a boat or why she was on the river at that time.
Rotter said Rock Fire deployed an inflatable boat and safe rescue boat to rescue the woman, adding that firefighters quickly pulled the woman into the inflatable boat and transferred her to shore, where she was evaluated by Rock Township Ambulance District personnel.
The woman was not transported to a hospital after being evaluated, authorities reported.
Rotter said Rock Fire cleared the scene at 7:16 a.m.
