Arnold Police are seeking charges against a 51-year-old Arnold-area woman for allegedly endangering the welfare of two of her grandchildren who were found alone several miles from her home, Detective Lt. James Jones said.
He said the two children, one 10 and the other 11, were found standing outside the Target store, 3849 Vogel Road, holding signs and asking for food, Jones said.
He said police went to the grandmother’s house outside the Arnold city limits, and she allegedly told officers that the older child refused to do chores and left the house, accompanied by the younger child. The grandmother also reportedly told officers that she planned to check for the children if they didn’t return in a couple of hours.
Jones said the children’s mother was out of the state, so they were staying with their grandmother. Children’s Division was contacted about the incident and took the children into custody, the report said.
He said the woman was not taken into custody, but Arnold Police have forwarded a report about the incident to the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office seeking child endangerment charges against her.
