Eureka Police are investigating vehicle break-ins at the Hilltop Village Pool and the nearby Berry Park. A black SUV was seen in the parking lots outside the pool and the park during the time the break-ins occurred, police reported.
Police got called to the neighborhood pool, 17190 Hilltop Ridge Drive, at about 4:25 p.m. Sept. 5 after a 46-year-old Eureka woman discovered the passenger-side window on her 2017 GMC Acadia had been smashed. The woman said she arrived at the pool at about 3:50 p.m. and discovered the theft at about 4:20 p.m., the report said.
She said her Coach purse, valued at about $500, and Apple AirPods, worth about $200, were stolen from the SUV. A cost to repair the window was not provided, according to the report.
In surveillance video, police saw what appeared to be a black Mitsubishi SUV circling the parking lot several times at about 4:10 p.m. before it stopped near the Acadia. No one was seen in the video getting out of the black SUV or approaching the Acadia, Eureka Police reported.
While investigating the surrounding area, an officer found a 2016 Hyundai Sonata with a smashed window parked at Berry Park, 401 Forby Road, that had its driver-side window smashed. The owner returned to the parking lot at about 4:35 p.m., and she said she had arrived at the park at about 3:50 p.m., the report said.
The woman said her purse, which was on the driver-side floorboard, had been rifled through but nothing was stolen. The cost to repair the window was estimated at $400, Eureka Police reported.
Another woman who was in the parking lot told the officer she had seen a black SUV parked next to the Sonata. She said she did not see if anyone got out of the SUV or approached the Sonata, according to the report.
As of Sept. 9, the stolen items had not been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Lt. Michael Tapp said. He asks anyone with information about the incidents to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
