A 52-year-old Eureka man was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated after he nearly caused on accident while driving the wrong direction on Bald Hill Road. The man has previously been convicted of at least two DWI offenses, Eureka Police reported.
At about 2:45 p.m. Dec. 9, an officer allegedly saw a 2010 Toyota Sequoia traveling north in the southbound lane. The SUV nearly ran into oncoming traffic, but it swerved to the southbound lane to avoid an accident, the report said.
The officer stopped the Sequoia near the intersection of South Virginia Avenue and Dreyer Avenue. The officer allegedly saw an open Bud Light can in the SUV’s cupholder, according to the report.
The driver refused to perform field sobriety tests and was arrested. He was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver, the report said.
Eureka Police will seek a charge against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for DWI, Capt. Michael Werges said.
