A man told authorities that a pistol he accidentally left behind in a restroom at a gas station in unincorporated Fenton was gone when he returned for it. The incident occurred about 7:25 p.m. Feb. 26 at the BP Gas Station, 101 Old Sugar Creek Road, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The victim told investigators he placed the firearm, a Smith & Wesson .38 Special, on the back of the toilet, and he forgot it when he left the restroom. He purchased two sodas and exited the business, but “after approximately six steps outside of the business he proceeded back to the restroom to retrieve his firearm.”
It was missing and he had only been gone about five minutes, the man told authorities. The pistol was valued at $500, the report said.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said March 8 that the pistol had not been recovered and no arrests had been made. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
