Festus Police are investigating the theft of a pickup from outside Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 635 S. Truman Blvd. A gun was inside the pickup when it was stolen, said the victim, a 29-year-old Ste. Genevieve man, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.
The victim reported the theft at about 4:15 p.m. Oct. 6. He told police he had left the pickup at the rental business after he rented a vehicle for his job, Lewis said.
“He said he’d parked his 2017 Chevrolet Silverado there about 5 a.m. Oct. 5. He found it stolen about 4 p.m. Oct. 6. He had a pistol in the vehicle,” Lewis said. “He said he locked the vehicle and had the key and does not know how it was stolen.”
Lewis estimated the value of the Silverado at $25,000 to $30,000 and the value of the pistol at about $400.
The chief advises people against leaving firearms inside vehicles.
“Don’t leave guns in cars, period,” he said. “They get stolen.”
Lewis asks anyone with information about the theft to call Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
