Fire destroys pickup outside of Imperial home

A Ford pickup was destroyed by fire and the front of a garage was damaged Jan. 14 at a home in the 2800 block of Frisco Hill Road in Imperial.

A fire destroyed a Ford pickup and damaged the front of a garage in the 2800 block of Frisco Hill Road in Imperial. The fire appears to have started in the pickup’s engine, the Antonia Fire Protection District reported.

Antonia Fire got a call about the fire at approximately 4:30 a.m. Jan. 14, and when firefighters arrived at 4:47 a.m., the pickup was engulfed in flames. The fire was under control at 5:02 a.m., the report said.

The attached garage sustained some damage, but the home did not.

All the home’s occupants were outside when firefighters arrived. Someone had moved two vehicles that had been parked near the pickup in the driveway, and those two vehicles had minor damage from the fire but were still drivable, the report said.

Deputy Chief Bobby Chrisco said the fire did not appear suspicious, but as of Jan. 16, the cause of the blaze had not been determined.

A firefighter was taken to an area hospital due to exposure to the frigid weather, and as of Jan. 16, the firefighter had been cleared to return to duty, Chrisco said.

The Rock Community Fire Protection District assisted with the call. The Rock Township Ambulance District and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the home.
