Pevely Police are seeking a man who allegedly has been living in a vacant home in the 400 block of West Second Street without the owner’s permission. The homeowner lives in a house next door to the one where the squatter keeps showing up, Pevely Police Capt. Larry Miller said.
The latest incident occurred about 2:15 a.m. July 1, Miller said.
“The reporting party is a 24-year-old woman who called on behalf of her mother, a 44-year-old woman,” Miller said. “The mother heard noises in (the house next to her). When our guys responded and were checking the exterior, an unknown man ran out the back. It looked like he had picked the lock.”
The suspect – described as a slender white man – got away, Miller said.
He said officers found evidence of someone living in the house.
“That’s what it sounds like, a squatter,” Miller said. “(The victims) say they have called in reports on (the suspect) at least three times in the last few weeks.”
