A 41-year-old Pevely man was arrested Wednesday evening (Jan. 26) for allegedly stealing items from a vehicle in the 1000 block of Oak Trail. The vehicle was not damaged, leading officers to believe the vehicle had been left unlocked, Pevely Police Chief Mark Glenn said.
At about 6:40 p.m., officers got a report about the theft, and after investigating, they found the suspect hiding behind a home in the neighborhood. Police allegedly found the man with items that did not belong to him, including a driver’s license and a vehicle title, the report said.
The suspect already was wanted on a warrant from a neighboring law enforcement agency. Glenn said the suspect was being held at the Pevely Police Station today (Jan. 28).
“We’re not seeing anything that indicates others were involved, but we’re not ruling it out,” Glenn said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
On Thursday morning (Jan. 27), Pevely Police, with help from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, canvassed the neighborhood seeking other victims and “located multiple witnesses who provided additional information to assist in our investigation," Glenn said.
“We are asking that if you live on or around Oak Trail, Sunridge Trail, Orchard Trail or Blackberry Trail to check your vehicles to determine if any items are missing,” Glenn said. “If you discover items missing from your vehicle, please call Pevely Police Department at 636-475-5301.”
