Two suspects are in custody after one of them allegedly shot into a Missouri State Highway Patrol car Thursday night (Dec. 10), injuring an officer.

The officer was not shot but sustained minor injuries from flying glass when the suspect shot out the windshield of the patrol car, said Cpl. Juston Wheetley of the patrol.

The suspects, a man and a woman, were found in the De Soto area and the patrol took them into custody without incident this afternoon (Dec. 11). Their names were withheld pending application for warrants, Wheetley said.

The incident began when the patrol started pursuing the car, driven by the woman, which was headed north on Hwy. 21 in Washington County, he said.

“Late last night, an officer was in pursuit of a vehicle for a traffic violation on Hwy. 21 in Washington County just north of Potosi, when a passenger in the vehicle came through the sunroof and started firing shots at the trooper,” Wheetley said. “He shot out the windshield and missed the trooper, but he (the officer) received minor injuries from the glass and had to terminate the pursuit,” he said.

The officer was not hospitalized.

The patrol located the car in the 1900 block of Skyline Drive in De Soto in the morning of Dec. 11, interim Police Chief Rick Draper said.

The suspects were transferred to Washington County and were being held by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
