A 23-year-old St. Louis woman recently was arrested for allegedly stealing a man’s vehicle at the QuikTrip, 1069 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold after she asked the victim for help with her car. The woman’s mother, a 44-year-old O’Fallon woman, also was arrested in connection with the incident, Arnold Police report.

The victim, a 60-year-old man, told police he was at the QuikTrip airing up the tires on his 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse, when the two women pulled up in a Ford Focus, and the younger one got out and asked for help. While the victim was looking under the hood of the Focus, the younger woman allegedly hopped into the man’s car and drove away, the report said.

As the younger woman was driving away in the stolen car, she allegedly struck the man. His leg was injured, but he declined medical treatment at the scene, Detective Lt. James Jones said.

The Eclipse, which was valued at $12,000, was spotted in Boone County several hours later, at about 10 p.m., and officers there tried to pull over the vehicle. The older woman allegedly was driving it and fled from police, but eventually the car was stopped in Warren County. The younger woman was a passenger in the stolen car, Jones said.

He said both women were taken into custody.

Arnold Police will seek charges against the younger woman for stealing, assault and tampering with a motor vehicle through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and charges will be sought against her mother for tampering, Jones said.

He didn’t know what charges other law enforcement agencies might seek.
