Crystal City Police are investigating the attempted theft of an ATM on Tuesday night, Feb. 18, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson, 1400 Hwy. 61.
Sgt. Billy Reese said his department received a call on the incident shortly before 8 p.m.
“Someone reported that two individuals entered the hospital and attempted to steal an ATM on the first floor,” Reese said. “They had a dolly. They unplugged it and put in on the dolly. When security arrived, the individuals exited through the main entrance of the hospital, got in a vehicle and left. They went up (Hwy. 61) to (Hwy. 67).”
He said they left the ATM behind.
“There were no damages to the ATM that we’re aware of,” Reese said.
He said the men were described as “white and wearing hoods pulled up and masks.”
“The vehicle is a dark-colored GMC Envoy,” he said.
The incident unfolded rapidly, Reese said.
“From the time they parked in the lot, they were there about four or five minutes,” he said.
He said he is not aware of any similar attempts to steal ATMs in the area.
As of today, Feb. 20, no arrests have been made and the investigation is continuing, he said.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crystal City Police at 636-937-4601 and ask for a detective, Reese said.
