A 34-year-old Arnold man and a 31-year-old Arnold woman, both wanted on outstanding warrants, were arrested during a traffic stop. The man allegedly was found with fentanyl, Arnold Police Capt. Rich Shular said.
At about 12:30 p.m. Dec. 21, an Arnold Police officer stopped the 2008 Chevrolet Equinox the woman was driving near the Dierbergs store, 860 Arnold Commons Drive, after noticing the SUV had plastic taped over a rear window and a large crack in its front windshield. The officer checked the license plate of the SUV and discovered the plate was registered to a Pontiac, the report said.
The woman told the officer the damage to the SUV occurred when a couple of men tried to beat up her boyfriend. She also said she borrowed the license plate from a friend, according to the report.
When the officer asked the man to identify himself, he refused, and the officer asked him to step out of the car so he could be searched for weapons. During the search, the officer allegedly found a syringe in the man’s pocket, the report said.
The man eventually identified himself to the officer, who learned the man was wanted by the Sheriff’s Office on warrants for a felony burglary and violating the terms of his parole, according to the report.
Police also discovered the woman was wanted by Arnold Police for misdemeanor driving with a suspended license, the police reported.
After the two were arrested, a police dog was brought to the scene and alerted officers to the possible presence of drugs. Then, an officer allegedly found a bag that contained a glass vial filled with empty capsules, a cut straw and a capsule containing a white powdery substance. The man allegedly told officers the bag belonged to him, adding that the white powder was fentanyl, the report said.
The two were taken to the Police Station, where they were booked. The woman was released with a new court date, and the man was held for the Sheriff’s Office. Depending on results of the drug analysis, Arnold Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, Capt. Rich Shular said.
