A man allegedly scammed a cashier at Walmart, 2201 Michigan Ave., in Arnold and walked away with merchandise worth about $2,100 without paying for it, Arnold Police reported.
The theft happened at about 3:35 p.m. July 27, when the man paid the cashier $3,017.29 for items he had purchased at the store. However, before the cashier put the money in the cash register, the man asked for a portion of it back and allegedly palmed $2,100 of the cash and gave the cashier back $917 before leaving the store with the merchandise, according to the report.
As of Aug. 7, none of the items nor the money had been recovered, and the suspect had not been identified, Detective Lt. Jeremy Christopher said. He asks anyone with information about the scam or anyone who has fallen victim to a similar scam to call Arnold Police at 636-296-3204.
