Pevely Police are looking for a 23-year-old man they say discharged a 9 mm handgun during a domestic dispute early Tuesday (Oct. 6).
No one was struck by the single gunshot, but a 23-year-old female was transported by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries from being hit and choked, Police Chief Ron Weeks said.
Police got a call at 12:27 a.m. about a domestic dispute in progress at a home in the 400 block of Elm Street. Weeks said officers had been called to the address before for domestic disputes.
“The (male) subject was reportedly hitting his girlfriend,” Weeks said. “There was a German shepherd dog that was barking at him and she tried to put the dog in a bedroom. He pulled a 9 mm and fired it into the floor.”
Weeks said the man fled before officers arrived. Police were still attempting to locate him this morning.
Officers recovered the weapon, shell casing and the bullet.
