The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged a man for unlawful possession of a weapon after two guns were found in a pickup he was driving when he was stopped for allegedly speeding in House Springs. The man previously was convicted of felony domestic assault in St. Louis County, court records show.
Brian Evertte Taylor, 58, of St. Louis has been charged with two counts of felony unlawful possession of a firearm and two misdemeanor traffic offenses. The misdemeanor charges are failure to register a motor vehicle and exceeding the posted speed limit, according to court documents.
Taylor was arrested on Feb. 4 and released on a $5,000 bond on Feb. 6. He is scheduled to appear on March 2 in Jefferson County Court, court records said.
According to the case’s probable-cause statement, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Nov. 4 saw Taylor allegedly driving at speeds of 91 and 88 mph on Hwy. 21 near Heads Creek Road. The posted speed limit in that area is 65 mph.
After stopping Taylor, the deputy saw a gun case in the pickup’s bed. The deputy arrested Taylor, who was wanted on active warrants, and Taylor allegedly admitted to being convicted of a previous felony, the report said.
The deputy allegedly found a shotgun and rifle in the pickup’s bed. Taylor is not allowed to have a gun due to the previous felony conviction, according to the report.
