A man claiming to hear voices allegedly vandalized Spinners Coin Laundry, 28 Gannon Square, in Pevely early Sept. 23. Police had to use a stun gun to subdue the man, Pevely Police Capt. Larry Miller reported.
He said Pevely Police got a call at about 12:30 a.m. about an alarm sounding at the business.
“Upon arrival and prior to entering the business, an officer observed clothing items on the floor leading to a 33-year-old Pevely man who was sitting in a chair toward the back of the business,” Miller said. “The man was sweating profusely, clenching his fists and gritting his teeth. Officers observed a large wooden table to be flipped over and lying near the man. The man jumped up and hid behind the wooden table.”
Miller said the man was alone in the business, which is open 24 hours. The man allegedly ignored the police officers’ commands to show himself and to show his hands, and eventually officers used a stun gun to subdue him.
“Officers checked the business and discovered a broken double door in addition to the broken table,” Miller said.
He said the victim estimated the damage at $350.
Miller said the man, who “made statements claiming he was hearing voices,” was arrested and taken to the Pevely Jail.
